The Country Club at Woodloch Springs, a championship golf course located in the Northern Pocono Mountains, has intensified its efforts to assist the families of local veterans who have dedicated their lives to the service of our country as it works tirelessly to support Folds of Honor, a national organization that awards educational scholarships to the military families of those who have been killed in action or severely disabled while on active duty.
This year marked the 3rd Annual Folds of Honor Golf outing at Woodloch Springs at which the children of six heroic servicemen from the 109th National Guard Unit, SSG Daniel Arnold, SSG George Pugliese, Sgt. Eric Slebodnik, Spc. William Evans, Spc. Lee Wiegand and Pfc Oliver Brown, were presented with scholarship funding. “We never want to forget these selfless veterans who gave their all for us. We are totally committed to honoring their legacy,” said John Pillar, Director of Golf at Woodloch Springs in making the presentations.
The total money raised from the Golf Classic last June was $20,000; an amount which was increased by $10,000 when combat veteran and VetStock Founder Tom Ryan presented Pillar with a check at Woodloch Springs. VetStock Vice President Rich Diaz and Secretary and Legal Counsel Kelly Gaughan, Shannon Stevenson and Tom Cardinale from VetStock also attended the check presentation.
VetStock is “a Not for Profit” organization that strives to “raise funds or assist in raising funds for Veteran Service Organizations.” It sponsors and coordinates fundraising options for other Veteran organizations in Pike County, as well as in other Northeast Regions of Pennsylvania. “For me, this a great way to spend my time. More often than not the children of the fallen or disabled servicemen are forgotten so that is why I enjoy doing this. Helping and giving back to those families are important,” said Tom Ryan to Channel 13 of Blue Ridge Communications, which was also present.
