The Country Club at Woodloch Springs, a championship golf course located in the Northern Pocono Mountains, has made great strides in its efforts to assist local veterans over the past few years.

The Folds of Honor Foundation provides annual educational scholarships to the military families of those who have killed in action or severely disabled while in active duty. Since Folds of Honor has been established they have given over 10,000 scholarships. Woodloch Springs has since been striving to add to that number each year by hosting its Folds of Honor Golf Classic. 2016 marked the 3rd annual Folds of Honor Golf Classic at Woodloch Springs. This tournament credits local veterans who have lost their lives fighting for our country. Each tournament’s goal is to raise money to educate the legacy of our fallen heroes. This year they honored the lives of 6 heroic servicemen from our local community who were killed, their names are as follows: SSG Daniel Arnold, SSG George Pugliese, Sg Eric Slebodnik, Spc William Evans, Spc Lee Wiegand and Pfc Oliver Brown all from the 109th National Guard Unit. “We never want to forget the veterans of our local community who gave it all for us so we are committed to honoring their legacy,” said John Pillar, Director of Golf at Woodloch Springs.

The total money raised from the 2016 Golf Classic was $20,000 which was augmented by a $10,000 donation was presented by Combat Veteran and Creator of VetStock, Tom Ryan who presented John Pillar a check for $10,000 at Woodloch Springs with all proceeds going to Folds of Honor to provide education opportunities for the children of those killed or severely disabled in combat. Vice President, Rich Diaz and Secretary and Legal Counsel, Kelly Gaughan, Shannon Stevenson and Tom Cardinale from VetStock also attended the presentation of the check.

VetStock is “a Not for Profit” organization that strives to “raise funds or assist in raising funds for Veteran Service Organizations.” They sponsor and coordinate fundraising options for other Veteran Organizations in Pike County and in other Northeast Regions of Pennsylvania.
“For me, this a great way to spend my time. More often than not the children of the fallen or disabled servicemen are forgotten so that is why I enjoy doing this. Helping and giving back to those families are important,” said Tom Ryan to Channel 13 of Blue Ridge Communications, who were also present.
